We often get asked about where coverage is valid for our policies, especially regarding cruise ships/international waters. Let's talk about it!
SIA's policies extend coverage to operations in international waters, such as on a cruise ship - but only if the ship takes off from and returns to the United States, the US-owned islands, or Canada. However, if your ship ports anywhere other than the United States, the US-owned islands, or Canada, once you're off the ship there's no longer any coverage.
Reminder, to hold an SIA policy you must have a US address. All policies have the same coverage territory:
- All 50 states (including its territories and possessions)
- US-owned islands: St. Thomas, St. John, St. Croix, Puerto Rico, and Guam
- Canada
- International waters (only if injury or damage occurs in the course of travel between the aforementioned area)
Please note, we cannot write MPEP policies for those with addresses in the US-owned islands, but coverage territory does extend to those places.
